What IS PERFORMANCE BAND?

Performance Band is a program that teaches music  performance similarly to how famous bands learn to perform together by actually  learning as a band to play songs, to perform the songs and to work as a  team.   It is very important
for a musician to know how timing and synchronization works with the rest of the  band.   We teach them to  arrange music to fit their style or the needs of the audience.   We teach stage presence.    And for that "shy" kid, watch how we transform them into a confident   performer!   We see this time  and time again.   The Band is  sometimes the only TEAM these kids have to work with and we teach them to value  the team work attitude.     Our kids learn to perfect their craft on stage and in live music  concerts.  We do not do  Recitals, these are Rock Concerts (or Pop, Country, Blues....   you get the picture right?)

What Are the Minimum, Maximum, & Average Ages?

The minimum age for  the Bachelor's program is 7 and the
maximum age is 18 (Summer of Senior Year). Music lessons are open to  all ages, as are band  practice/improvement times. The average age for  performance band  instruction is 14.

what if I have my own instructor outside rock u?

We encourage  students to stay with instructors
they're already  familiar  with.  The live performance band program takes those lessons to the next level and encourages more learning. We  can  work with  your current  instructor to make sure they know what we are requiring you to learn.

What does it cost?

The price varies depending on your private instructions however generally speaking, 1 private lesson per week plus Performance band cost less than 10.00 per hour total.   We make it affordable to keep your private instructor if you have one as well as attend our performance band program.   Our lessons can be scheduled in Harrisburg or University City.  If you are in Performance Band that is only held on our large Stage in University City location but lessons can be at either location.

Do I Have to Know How   to  Play My Instrument?

To attend the performance band  program, the  student should have a  basic understanding of the instrument,  although  improvement will come  with practice and from the influences of the  other kids in  the band.

Do you have programs for adults?

Yes!
We have instructors who teach beginner to master classes for Adults
We offer Band improvment/coaching for Adult Bands.
We also offer a full service rehearsal space available for rent.
We frequently run specialty classes such as PA/Live Sound, Music Business Classes,Recording and Production, Video Production etc which are geared to Adults and established bands.

How often do classes start? can I start anytime?

Classes begin about every 11 to 12 weeks.   You can jump in at anytime, however we try to hold back new artist in the last four weeks of a performance to be sure you have plenty of stage time in the show.   The lessons can be scheduled while you are waiting for the next show season to begin.   Our performances are held at the end of each show season and usually are 1 or 2 locations around town.

What is the Roadshow? How do I join?

The Roadshow is the elite performace group.  Roadshow rehearses once a week on Saturday (or Tuesday during Summer school break).   Roadshow is hired to perform at events, fairs, festivals and concerts throughout the region.  These musicians have acheived an Intermediate to Advanced Level on their primary instrument.  The Roadshow musicians demonstait a high level of commitment to attending practices and to learning their parts both in the school and independantly.  The musicians in Roadshow are required to also perform in the regular season show or take lessons from our instructors.  Roadshow is free for Students performing in the regular season show.  This is a time intensive program and requires a very high level of participation on the part of each student and family member but offers substantial experience in public performance and exposure to important music industry professionals.

Questions for you.............

Has Your Child Taken Lessons but Become Bored with the  Instrument?
The success story of children in performance-based  music is similar over and over again. Here is a testimonial by a child who
learned to play in performance-based music lessons after failing to learn in 2  years of traditional lessons:

  • "I took guitar lessons from a really cool guitarist for about 2 years
and I really liked the guy. He played in a band and had a really cool style. But
I didn't want to learn scales and chords and all that junk, I just wanted to
learn to play rock and roll music. I never practiced, and my mom was mad at
spending money when I didn't practice.  My mom put me in summer camp last year
where I practiced real songs and played real rock music. After just 2 weeks, I
performed on stage with other kids. Ever since then, I have played my guitar
every single day and even performed in front of live audiences of more than 200
people, and once in front of 1,500 people. I also learned to sing. Now, I like
learning scales and fundamentals of music. The coolest thing for my parents is
watching me perform. They are my biggest fans."

Does Your Child Think Learning to Sing or  Play the Piano Is "Uncool?"
Piano lessons have been the subject  of jokes and many movies about "uncool" kids for years, but the truth is piano
music is cool and we can prove it! What if the piano was a keyboard and you were  playing it on a live stage with lights and other musicians like the real rock  star? Yeah, we though you would like that! Our kids learn vocals, keyboard,  guitar, bass, and drums in a setting where they are playing popular rock and pop  music on a real stage. After 10 weeks, they perform a real rock concert with a
professional sound system and light show on a real stage in front of a live  audience. We will also perform for school events, festivals, and other community  functions. Many shy kids surprise their peers by playing in a rock band and  rocking their school's spring or fall festival.

Are You  Looking for a Program to Replace Sports in the Off-Season or for a  Non-Athlete?
If your child is an athlete, this program helps  fill in the gap between seasons when they typically become bored. Let's face
it—we can't all be athletes. Do you want your child involved in a "team" where  they learn teamwork, responsibility, life skills, and a valuable talent? This  program places your son or daughter in a band with a group of other kids where  they become an important part of the band. They learn to work together as a  band, which is a very important team. Many kids who are not athletes are
artistic, and this gives them a place to show off their  talents!

Are You a Good Adult Guitarist Who Needs to Connect  with a Drummer, Singer, or Keyboardist?
If you're a musician who  plays well and enjoys jamming with other musicians, we can link you to drummers,
guitarists, vocalists, and keyboardists who are in the same position. Meeting  other musicians with similar music interests is common in this program. It  allows a forum to play music with others just for fun or to form a serious band  to be hired by nightclub owners and event planners. If you're already in a band  and just need a place to get loud, a stage to practice your "show," or even a
building to rent for a performance, we can help. Existing band members can  practice with our professional sound system on our stage for just $20 per week,  per band member for 1 hour. Building rental rates vary by date and specification  of your event.
